Replacing the Enclosure Assembly

A damaged, weathered or vandalised housing does not mean a new keypad. This guide shows how to transfer the electronics of a Codeguard scrambling keypad into a replacement enclosure — about ten minutes on the bench.

Enclosure replacement, start to finish

Before you start. Isolate the keypad from its supply before opening it, and take normal anti-static precautions when handling the PCB — hold it by the edges and avoid touching the connector pins. Keep the original fixings and gasket together; they are reused in the replacement enclosure.

Three stages

The video walks through each one at working pace, so it can be followed on a phone at the bench.

1

Open and separate

Removing the fixings, lifting the front assembly clear of the base and releasing the ribbon connector that links the keypad PCB to the base without straining it.

2

Transfer the PCB

Lifting the board out of the old housing and seating it correctly on the pillars of the replacement enclosure, with the ribbon routed so it is not trapped on reassembly.

3

Refit and test

Replacing the pillars, fixings and gasket, closing the enclosure, and confirming the keypad powers up and scrambles correctly before it goes back on the door.
